The Ecofill structural materials are produced, tested & validated to meet all the National specification requirements & performance levels for Highways & Earthworks as laid out by the Standards for Highways, Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works (MCHW), Specification for Highways Works, Series 600, 800 and/or BSEN 14227.
We produce 3 Ecofill products:
Ecofill 75 (typically replaces 6F5 or 6F2)
Ecofill 50 (typically replaces Type 1 Subbase)
Ecofill HD (typically replaces concrete or Asphalt Base)
Ecofill Product Specifications are fully tested & validated by independent, UKAS accredited laboratories.
AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure firm, which is currently commissioned by the UK Government in the re-writing of various sections of the Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works, Specification for Highways Works, has also been independently commissioned by Ecofill to produce our comprehensive Quality Management Plan.
This Quality Management Plan covers the design, production and quality control of the Ecofill products, which ensures that the Ecofill products meet the relevant National and European standards for Highways and Earthworks
Ecofill 75 is a Class 9 stabilised material produced and tested to the Standards for Highways, Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works (MCHW) Volume 1, Specification for Highway Works 600 Series.
Ecofill 75 is non-frost susceptible and when compacted, will cure and achieve a stiffness modulus of 15% CBR or 100MPa.
Ecofill 75 can be used as capping and fill layers for earthworks structures and in adoptable Highways.
Ecofill 50 is a Class 9 stabilised material produced and tested to the Standards for Highways, Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works (MCHW) Volume 1, Specification for Highway Works 600 Series.
Ecofill 50 is non-frost susceptible and when compacted, will cure and achieve a stiffness modulus of 30% CBR or 150MPa.
Ecofill 50 can be used in the same layers as Ecofill 75 however, due to its higher stiffness modulus, it can also be used as the Subbase layer in non-adoptable earthworks structures.
EcoFill HD (Heavy Duty) is a Hydraulically Bound Mixture produced to SHW 800 Series Clauses 830, 831 or 832 and BS EN 14227- 5.
EcoFill HD has a typical compressive strength of C4 – C20 (100%+CBR) and is non-frost susceptible.
Ecofill HD can be used as Base & Subbase layers in earthworks structures including adoptable Highways, and also as a Running Surface in temporary works.
The Installation and Maintenance of our Ecofill products require a similar approach and methodology to that of traditional roads and foundations construction. This includes Storage, Compaction, Inclement Weather, Water Tables, Drainage etc and additional applications such as Induced Cracking of Ecofill HD.
Laying and compaction of the Ecofill products is carried out using traditional compaction equipment and in line with Table 6/4 of SHW600. The Ecofill products have a workability period of up to 10 calendar days and all Ecofill products are supplied with comprehensive guides to Installation & Maintenance, End User information and full Product Data Sheets.
