Ecofill & The Quarries

Minimising Waste, Maximising Use

Due to consistent composition, superior physical properties and wide availability, the Ecofill design and technology can process all types of quarry waste including cohesive silty materials and filter cake.

Sub-economic materials currently being held in stockpiles across the UK are defined as wastes as no market currently exists for them and to date, the ability of quarries to convert these wastes into approved structural fills has been hampered by the lack of technology, flexibility, affordability and sustainable techniques available.

The unrivalled & unique Ecofill process has arrived and is readily available to convert your waste material into high end products which can be used for bound and unbound layers, capping and infiltration layers, and as general fill.

Complimenting your own waste management plan, the Ecofill Materials Management Plan (MMP) forms the backbone of operational control, providing the ability to demonstrate materials suitability for reuse, both in terms of geotechnical performance for earthworks reinstatement and environmental compliance.

The Technology

The Ecofill process provides an on-site, ex-situ technology using state of the art machinery and non-corrosive, bespoke proprietary binders to process all types of waste, including: soils, silts, clays and fines.

These wastes, under our mobile waste treatment licence, can be processed into structural fill materials which are fully tested and accredited by our independent industry partners.

Environmental: Socio-Economic Issues & Impacts

Environmental: Socio-Economic Issues & Impacts

Due to the environmental, social and economic costs associated with storing and managing aggregates, we understand that excess quarry waste can be a source of friction between aggregates companies, local communities and other stakeholders. Equally, the need to minimise fines is driven in part by the environmental and social consequences of their production and the costs of dealing with increasing volumes.

Many of the potential impacts can be prevented or mitigated by the introduction of the Ecofill technology. Potential impacts of quarry waste can be summarised as:

Visual Intrusion

Quarry waste stockpiles can be a significant visual intrusion

Water

Run-off from quarry waste stockpiles can cause erosion and contaminate local watercourses

Dust

Large quarry waste stockpiles can be a source of airborne dust, which can be exacerbated if they are elevated above the original ground level

The Ecofill & Quarry Partnership

The Ecofill & Quarry Partnership

Quarry operations tend to focus on aggregate production and may not always have the opportunity to take a critical look at the performance of their waste re-use potential. The Ecofill team has years of experience in material processing; civil engineering; waste management and the quarrying industry and along with our preferred industry specialists have a broad range of management, design, engineering, technical capabilities and construction skills. Choosing Ecofill as a partner will provide your Quarry Group with a unique, unrivalled and unlimited opportunity to substantially improve on your operations and profitability.
